Character Quest: Day 5

Today we’re moving on the day #5 of the Resistance Character Quest. We’re gonna be having a little chat with Michael today!

Michael’s Bio:  Guardian for Herrald’s clan, there is one word that describes Michael—confident. Some might say he’s cocky, but he doesn’t think so. A motto he lives by? “Know what you want in life then go for it.”

It’s so great to have you stop by here today, Michael. We want to welcome you and hope you can break the BUBBLE of curiosity we hold about you! On with our questions!

What’s your favorite book?

Well, I’m not a big reader, but our English teacher once made us read Les Miserables by Victor Hugo. That story has always stuck with me. Jean Valjean was a good guy, but was corrupted by a cruel world, becoming sort of heartless after a 19-year stint in prison for stealing a loaf of bread. When he finally leaves prison, one man teaches him that anyone can change from bad to good, from darkness to light. Valjean ends up doing just that. I love this kind of story. I have to believe that there is redemption for anyone, no matter what dark path they are on.

What do you miss most about high school?

I miss football the most—the guys, my coaches, my best friend, Daniel. There was something about being on that field with my offensive line, calling out plays in the huddle, hearing the crowds in the stands and the coaches calling from the sidelines that made sense to me. Everything was simpler, easier to figure out. Now, the world’s upside-down and we don’t know what’ll happen from one day to the next.

What’s a quote that would represent your life right now?

I remember this guy reciting a monologue from Henry V on Speech Night the very week before the Reapers came. His words are constantly in my head. Well, I guess they’re actually Shakespeare’s words. He said, “From this day to the ending of the world, we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers; for he today that sheds his blood with me shall be my brother.”

Yeah, that’s how I feel these days, but it goes for the girls, too. I feel tied to the Setti. We’re in this together till the end.

What is a special childhood memory?

Daniel has been my best friend since 1st grade. Even then he was a big kid. He’s always been the big kid. He’s also always been the nice guy. Well, Daniel and I lived about a block apart. When we were in 5th grade, I remember there was this middle-school bully that lived in a house between ours. What was his name, Gary or Jerry, something like that.

One day, I was waiting for Daniel to meet me at my house, and he was taking forever. So I got on my bike and rode after him. Halfway there, I see Gary what’s-his-face with two other scrawny kids surrounding Daniel, throwing globs of dirt at him. Daniel’s just standing there, taking it, even though he was bigger than all of them.

So I rush into the circle, pushing one of the kids to the ground and asked Daniel what was going on. He sort of whispered that his mom told him it was bad to fight. I told him there was always a time to fight and this was that time. It was like a light went off. Daniel pushed skinny kid #2 to the ground then punched Gary right in the nose. Gary squealed like a girl and ran off.

That might seem odd to define a “special childhood memory,” but I’m fond of it, because it was the day Daniel stood up for himself and never looked back. Yes, he was still the nice guy, but no one tried to pick on the “big guy” after that.

What draws you to Clara? Do you think she feels the same?

What’s not to draw me? Number one, there’s undeniable chemistry between us. She’s hot, and well, she seems to like what she sees in me. It’s kind of obvious the way she looks at me all the time. Number two, we’re both Guardians. We just fit in every way.

And yes, she definitely feels the same way. No doubt.

Michael your answers to these questions were certainly enlightening! Thanks so much for stopping by and spending time with us!

Character Quest: Day 4: Jeremy!

It’s day #4 of the Resistance Character Quest. We hope you’re enjoying getting to know these characters! Today we’re gonna hear a bit about Jeremey!

Jeremy’s Bio: Sounder for Homer’s clan. Jeremy is calm, cool, and confident.  And, yes, he knows it. His favorite hobbies besides listening to his iPod? Annoying Ben and teasing Clara. Something no one really knows about him? He loves playing the piano.

So excited to have you with us today, Jeremy! Welcome! I hope you have a BLAST answering our questions! Let’s get down to them….

What do you miss most about life before the Reapers came?

Let’s see, I hated school, so I didn’t miss much there. Except maybe art class. That was cool. I hated my home-life, so not much to miss there. I know my parents weren’t much of parents, but I do hope they made it out okay. (I doubt it though, so I don’t like to think about that.)
I’d say the only thing I really miss is downloading new songs to iTunes and listening to my favorite bands’ new music. I mean, the idea of no new music being created is driving me crazy! Is this it? Will there be nothing else? That’s insane to think about. We’ve gotta do something about that.
If you could have any three people from history over to dinner, who would it be?

Beethoven, Napoleon Bonaparte, and Amy Lee. Dude, that would be so awesome! Napoleon could tell us stories about fighting in battles and all that, Beethoven could compose music for it, and Amy could sing while I play the piano. Cool, right? I mean, I’ve always wanted to know if Napoleon really was as short as they say he was. I think history experts just make up a lot of stuff. History books are probably full of just made-up opinions by some stuck-up professor somewhere along the line.
I’d bet my iPod that Beethoven was probably a Sounder, too. I just really wanna know. And, why Amy Lee? Have you seen the woman? Have you listened to her? She’s got a set of pipes that light me on fire. If Beethoven and Napoleon stand me up, that’s fine by me. Amy and I will just have a candlelight dinner for two.
What is your most embarrassing moment?

Don’t have one. I don’t get embarrassed.
In your Setti clan, who is the most difficult to live with and why?

Melanie is by far the most difficult. She’s gotta have everything in order and in its place. It’s like living with Mary Poppins or something. I mean, who really cares if there are socks on the floor or Ding-Dong wrappers in the car?
What’s a quote that would represent your philosophy on life?

“Now remember, things look bad and it looks like you’re not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. ‘Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That’s just the way it is.” That’s Clint Eastwood in Outlaw Josie Wales, one of the greatest movies ever made. Next to the Star Wars movies, of course
And you can’t forget Obi-Wan Kenobi’s advice: “May the force be with you.” Don’t ever lose the

Character Quest: DAY 3!

It’s Day #3 for our Resistance Character Quest. Today we are so happy to welcome Clara to the blog.

Clara’s Bio: Guardian in Homer’s clan. Clara is outspoken and determined, which sometimes leads to trouble.  She loves playing Scrabble with Jeremy though she pretends she doesn’t. And while she always says exactly what she means, she often keeps the most important things to herself.

Welcome, Clara! It’s so great to have you with us today. We hope you don’t SHIELD yourself too much!

What’s your favorite movie?

My favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice. My favorite film version is the one with Matthew McFadyen as Mr. Darcy and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett. I can’t help it. I’m really a romantic at heart. But don’t tell Jeremy. He’ll tease me to no end.
In history, who inspires you the most?

Queen Elizabeth I really inspires me. She was a powerful woman in a man’s world. It would’ve taken great courage to accomplish all she did in trying to bring her country together. She wasn’t a perfect leader or person. Who is? But she was intelligent, beautiful, and brave. I admire that very much.
What do you like most about Gabe? Least?

He is determined, strong, loyal, and caring. He also looks awesome in blue jeans and a t-shirt. J What bothers me is when he gets tunnel vision about things and doesn’t listen to what I’m saying. He might hear me, but he’s not listening, if that makes any sense.
In your Setti clan, who is the most difficult to live with and why?

Oh, Jeremy is the most difficult. No contest. He’s such a scamp. He’s always stirring things up and getting Ben all bent out of shape. Honestly though, I love the guy to death. He’s the brother I never had. I imagine a brother would pick on me just as badly as he does, too.
Describe your most perfect guy.

He would be handsome, compassionate, confident and loyal. He would be a good listener, a leader, attentive but not jealous, and he would be someone who fights for what they want in life.

Thanks for stopping by and chatting with us, Clara. It was great having you here!

Character Quest: DAY 2!!!

Welcome to day #2 of the Resistance Character Quest! We are fortunate to have with us today a really “BRIGHT” guy, his name is Ben.

Ben’s Bio: Light-bearer in Homer’s clan. Ben is an all-American boy who sees life through optimistic, glass-half-full lenses. Nothing annoys him. Well, except for Jeremy. Favorite hobbies? Eating!

Now that we know a little bit more about Ben, let’s see what he has to say in answer to our most pressing questions, shall we?

Thanks so much for being here with us today, Ben! It’s gonna be great having you ENLIGHTEN us about who you are!

What was your favorite subject in high school?

P.E. I love running. I like to watch the girls run, too.

What do you miss most about life before the Reapers came?

Smoothie King, McDonald’s French fries, and Seinfeld reruns. Oh, yeah. And sleeping late on Saturday mornings. And my mom’s chocolate-chip pancakes. . . and my dad’s famous barbeque ribs.

What is your most embarrassing moment?

That would have to be the 9th grade “Back to School” dance at Beau Chêne High School. Gabe and I went and met up with our friends Mark and Zack in the school gym where the dance was.

I got thirsty so I went to get some punch. Mel was there, standing by herself in a yellow dress, I remember. She had started to kind of hang out with us at school, but I didn’t know her that well back then. She looked kind of lonesome, and I wanted to talk to her. I took one of the canned cokes on ice, fumbled with it on the table, then offered it to her.

I’ll never forget I said, “You look like you could use this.” When she opened the tab, coke fizzed and sprayed all over her yellow dress. At first, she was really mad. Her eyebrows scrunched up the way they do now when she gets mad. But after I said I was sorry about a hundred times, she was so nice about it. She’s always really nice about things like that, when I screw up or whatever.

In your Setti clan, who is the most difficult to live with and why?

Dude, are you kidding me? It’s Jeremy! He’s so freakin’ annoying sometimes—always giving me a hard time and stuff. But I know that’s just the way he is. Some people operate like that, because they don’t know how to just be cool, ya know?

When did you realize you were “different”?

Hmm. Am I different? When I realized I was a Setti, Gabe and the rest of my friends realized they were, too. So I wasn’t any different from them. We were sort of all the same, so I never thought I was different. You know what I mean?

Thanks so much for stopping by with us today, Ben.

Dark Fever (Fever #1)

by Karen Marie Moning

Genre: Urban Fantasy

Published: October 1st 2006 by Delacorte Press

Rating: 4 amazing stars!

Synopsis: MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman.

Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands….

MY REVIEW:

A very good book! I found it thanks to a recommendation of a friend. I was not very sure at first, because Fae are not something that really amuse me. But this book proved me wrong.

The beginning is SLOW in my opinion, it’s like nothing really happens but after 35% it gets interesting.

The writing is remarkable and never boring. Descriptions are everywhere and for every taste.

We have several characters but the main ones are Mac and Barrons.
Mac is an extraordinary protagonist, she surprises the reader over and over and ends up being a kick ass heroine, not the blond bubble-head that we meet at the start of the book.

Barrons, WOW, I just love him! He is intriguing and I’m looking forward to finding out what he is. (I have a some ideas, but let’s see what happens)
Definitely my favorite character.

The plot is complex and here we just see the tip of the iceberg.
The only thing I would criticize is the “sexual” scenes that made no sense to me. (they could have been developed differently). Let’s be clear, they were so few so It’s not big deal. Anyway the series is called “Fever” so yes, I was expecting steamy moments but it’s like they came out of the blue!

Anyway it’s a very promising start to a series! Can’t wait to read more of it!

And here is the other cover that personally I love 🙂

Grasping at Eternity (The Kindrily Series #1)

by Karen Amanda Hooper

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Published: May 25th 2012

Rating: 5 mega stars!

Synopsis:

Leave it to Maryah Woodsen to break the one rule that will screw up eternity: Never erase your memories.

Before entering this life, Maryah did the unthinkable—she erased. Now, at seventeen years old, she’s clueless that her new adoptive family has known her for centuries, that they are perpetually reincarnated souls, and that they have supernatural abilities. Oh, and she’s supposed to love (not despise) Nathan, the green-eyed daredevil who saved her life.

Nathan is convinced his family’s plan to spark Maryah’s memory is hopeless, but his love for her is undying. After spending (and remembering) so many lifetimes together, being around an empty version of his soulmate is heart shattering. He hates acting like a stalker, but has no choice because the evil outcast who murdered Maryah in their last lifetime is still after her.

While Maryah’s hunter inches closer, she and Nathan make assumptions and hide secrets that rip them further apart. Maryah has to believe in the magic within her, Nathan must have faith in the power of their love, and both need to grasp onto the truth before they lose each other forever—and discover just how lonely eternity can be.

X-MEN meets MY NAME IS MEMORY in Karen Amanda Hooper’s latest young adult release.

Review:

I got this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.

X- MEN meets MY NAME IS MEMORY? That says in the description… well… I haven’t read MY NAME IS MEMORY but It must be good because this book was awesome!

I’m glad I had that chance to be one of the first readers of this enthralling story because it really is  marvellous. It evoked many different emotions in me, it had so many compelling moments and at some point I almost cry! I won’t post any spoilers don’t worry! Go ahead and find out on you own!

The plot was very interesting. Although reincarnation may be a common topic, the author gave it some twists and turns that made it completely amazing.
I think the writing was fantastic, the dialogues are great, so smart and there were many original and interesting situations. Their first encounter was keenly awaited, but totally worth it! Magical and funny at the same time.

Maryah and River’s beginning is awesome, they have a true connection and he is so sweet, I admit it! I’m a sucker for love triangles! XD

I loved Carson’s personality, he was funny and the only one giving her some leads to the truth! Meteor! XD
I felt, though, that Maryah was clueless in extreme and maybe Nathan’s efforts to be with her were somehow mild.

Nonetheless it is one of the best books I’ve read this year, it’s only the beginning of a promising series, and it goes straight to my “favourites shelf”. I’m in love with a new series! (as If I my to-be-read shelf needed something extra! lol)

Before I forget and leave you alone until tomorrow: don’t you love the cover art? That picture is gorgeous and those petals and feathers are a perfect addition!

Thumbs up for Karen Amanda Hooper!
